Apple & Pumpkin Pie Baking Contest

Rules and Regulations

Each entrant must submit an entry form prior to the contest and no later than October 27, 2011.  There is no entrance fee to enter the pie contest. Judges and their family members are excluded from entering the contest as are bakeries or professional bakers.

- Contest is open to the general public.  Commercial or professional bakers, home economists or anyone selling bakery products are not eligible.

- All entries must be baked at home from scratch.  You can use fresh or canned   pumpkin.  Crusts must be made from scratch

- Each contestant must submit two pies – one for judging and one for selling.

- Please submit pies in disposable pie plates.  No plates will be returned

- Pies are to be brought to the old Town Hall between the hours of 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM.  Pie recipes may be used by the Newtown Lions Club for promotional material.

- All entries must be baked at home from scratch.  You can use fresh or canned  pumpkin.  Crusts must be made from scratch.

 - Pies will be judged based on the following criteria:

-          Taste and texture

-          Appearance

-          Overall impression and creativity 

- Judges will be selected by the Newtown Lions Club members from the local community.  Judging will take place between 11:30 and 12:30 pm.  The judges’ decisions are final. 

- Prizes include a restaurant gift certificate and a bottle of wine   

- Prizes will be awarded to the three top rated submissions.

Everyone is urged to attend wearing their Halloween costume
